His previous series - the Conqueror series based around Ghengis Khan & his descendants, and the Emperor series focused on Julius Caesar - were of a reliably, solid level but for me personally in hindsight feel more like an observer telling the tale of particular events. It is only when I delved into this advanced preview that I realised just how well suited a writer like Conn Iggulden is to tackling this very English affair.
